Take a good look at the guy on the left because we will all be hearing alot from him in the near future. This past weekend John McCain invited Bobby Jindal along with Flordia Govenor Charlie Christ and Mitt Romney to more or less interview for Vice President. So today at work I decided to use the taxpayer dollars that are funding my position liberally and do a little research on the name I didn't recognize and found out that this guy could be the future of the Republican party.

• He was born to Indian immigrants thus possibly offsetting the racial progressiveness Barak Obama brings to the table.
• He converted to Catholicism in high school and strongly opposes abortion in all cases including rape and incest thus bringing in the Sally Kennedy's of this world.
• He is flat out brilliant in that he graduated from high school at the age of 16 and went on to graduate with honors from Brown with a double major in Biology and Public policy and to add icing to the cake he was also a Rhodes scholar(not sure what that is but it sounds impressive)
• At the age of 25 he was appointed secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals and turned the 400 million dollar deficit of that organization into a 220 million dollar surplus
• At the age of 29 he was appointed as the youngest ever president of the University of Louisiana system
• After barely loosing in his attempt at govenor in 2003 he was elected to the house of representatvies
• In 2007 he was successful in his second attempt at Govenor

I would not bet on Jindal for Vice President because he is young and conventional wisdom in my opinion would be that McCain would choose Charlie Christ to help swing the all important state of Flordia. I would however bet on him announcing his precense to the country by giving the keynote speech at the Republican National Convention as Barak Obama did for the Democrats in 2004. Either way he could be something very special down the road and maybe even as Rush Limbaugh describes him "the next Ronald Reagan."

City Amateur

As all of you know, the City Amateur was this previous weekend. After a solid first day shooting 78, I was paired with a group that I will never forget. Of course shooting a score that high normally results in being paired with random guys from Savannah who you have never met or heard of in your life, and this just had to happen to me on this particular Sunday. The first guy I met was Matt Morris a typical Savannah boy of around the age of thirty. Typical golfer as well, not the best player in the world but a very nice guy. The next guy's name I will not forget for a while, as Jim Crumbley stepped up on the tee, I looked at Fender and wanted to shoot myself for being paired with this man. The outfit he was wearing probably only stated the class that this was man was from. His outifit consisted of: black shoes with the leather ripping off of, white socks (although they had probably been worn the last three days and they were not as white as they should have been) and remember he had black shoes with these white socks, cargo pants (forgot the belt of course), an untucked yellow shirt that had some ancient seventies design to it, and a Georgia mesh has that was about the color of the grass outside. I knew this man was a class act from the get go. As he steps up to the first tee with his cigarette in mouth, all I could think was a wonder if this guy gives a shit about what he looks like and is he really going to tee off in the final round of the city amateur with a cig in his mouth. Of course my wish was not fulfilled, as he threw the cigarette to the ground to hit his opening tee shot that snap hooked into the woods proceeded by a nice son-of-a-bitch out the man's mouth. As we proceed to head down the first fairway the man finishes his cigarette. We pull up to the green, and what do you think happens, old Jim decides to catch himself a nice fat pinch of dip. He then proceeded to follow the pattern of cigarette one hole, dip the next two holes, until we had played all of the holes. However, it was not only the way he looked that made this a memorable day, but also some of the things that he said. We kind of strayed away from the man for the first couple holes, as we were trying to stay clean, but on the fourth tee the par three over the fine river, he approached me. He goes up to me and he says: "Brendan, how is that pootang situation up there at Augusta College?" 1. Dude you are like forty years old, why are you asking me about women and sex. 2. When the hell did anybody say pootang, I mean most guys would be like how are the women up there. 3. Its Augusta State as my bag reads retard, and its something you probably know nothing about as the intelligence that this man possessed was just radiating the group. After being asked that, I took the shock on and replied that I had pretty much dated a couple of girls for the year. He simply responded that that is bullshit, and I should be having as much sex as possible. I think to myself, dude, you probably have never gotten laid in your life, why are you saying that and why would I listen to you as you are definitely a role model for us all. So after we hit our shots, I looked at Fender and thought to myself, where is a gun. We continued on play, and I felt so bad for the other playing partner Matt Morris for being stuck in the cart with good ole' Jim. I am sure they probably had talks about Jim's sex life, and the fact that he does every drug on the planet. I am also sure they probably talked about the risk of cancer for Jim and that he probably has a 99% chance of getting cancer. For the rest of the round, we proceeded to not talk to Jim, but we do have one other story. We are sitting on the eleventh hole at Bacon Park, a presteen golf course in Georgia, waiting for the group in front of us to finish putting. As BK and his goons are putting, Jim lifts up his shirt exposing his nice fat beer belly. He then takes his right hand under and starts to rub the bottom of his beer gut for a good solid minute. He is just standing in the middle of the fairway, rubbing his belly for who knows what reason. After hearing all day the dictionary of classy words, we finish the round. That was my City Am experience for this year, and it just goes to show you how presteen bacon park is.

BC Beats Another "Team to Watch"

BC beat Calvary yesterday 10-7 and Kyle Tootle was the winning pitcher for the second year in a row. This win comes after four starters were either kicked off or quit due to drinking at prom. BC recorded 12 hits with Josh Corley, Wynn Moore, A.J. DeFilippis, Larry Hopkins, and Charles Moore each having 2 hits. All these hits were not the Calvary pitchers fault of course. My brother said that while Cody Padgett was pitching his dad said after every hit or bad pitch that it was not his fault because the mound in bad condition and had not been taken care of properly. If its was the mounds fault for them losing this year, I wonder what the problem was last year? Oh wait their excuse last year was they didn't throw their ace, but BC didn't either. It seems like Calvary has an excuse for losing to BC every time. I'm sure that if we play again next year and win the excuse will be something like the foul line isn't straight or the base coaches box was crooked. So continue to win those Single A championships and remember that you can't beat a BC team who recently lost four starters and was not one of the "Teams to Watch."

Baseball 'watch' lists lacking


The March 27 article by Sean Coughlin, about high school baseball "teams to watch" and "players to watch" was sorely lacking on information.

The top team should be Calvary, which did make the reporter's list, having won two state championships in the last three years. The next team should be Benedictine, which is not on the list on "teams to watch."

Benedictine was one of only three teams to defeat Calvary last season. Benedictine, with seven juniors on the starting team, shut out Calvary. So far this season, Benedictine has defeated all opponents from Savannah, including: Savannah Christian, Jenkins, Groves, Windsor Forrest and Effingham County. Benedictine has made the state playoffs the last three seasons and has not been defeated this year by any team in Savannah. How can they not be a "team to watch"?

Now, the best "player to watch" is John Roberts from South Effingham. He has10 or 12 home runs this season. The Savannah Morning News got this one right by putting him on the list. The next best player is probably Chris Kicklighter from Benedictine, who didn't make the "players to watch" list. Chris has at least seven home runs this season. Any coach in Savannah would list Chris as one of the top players. Also, knowing Benedictine has defeated all other schools in Savannah except Calvary (game set for 4:30 p.m., April 21 at Benedictine), I think there would have to be some other Benedictine players as "player to watch." I will say one thing, Benedictine is not a one- or two-man team, for each game produces another player to propel this team to victory.

If Sean Coughlin wants to see two of the best baseball teams in Savannah and some of the best players, he should plan on covering the Benedictine vs. Calvary baseball game on April 21.

Coach Herdon Honored in Atlanta

I do'nt know if anyone gets a chance to read The Banner anymore or not but my parents mailed me the latest issue. There was an article about Coach Herdon beign honored at the Touchdown Club of Atlanta for winning his 200th career game. Here's the article that appeared in The Banner:

The Touchdown Club of Atlanta honored Coach Herdon at the 70th Awards Banquet on February 9, 2008 in Buckhead as one of the winningest prep football coaches in the state of Georgia as he surpassed the 200th win during the Cadets 2007 season.

Only 53 coaches have won 200 or more games in the 67 year history of the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA). Three of those coaches were recognized at the banquet.

As a special note-Benedictine is the only high school in the state of Georgia that has two "Two Hundred Club" members as Coach Walsh has also reached this milestone.

Belmont Abbey College has awarded its prestigious Crescat Scholarship to Savannah native Shannon Summerlin, a senior at Benedictine Military School. The value of the four-year scholarship exceeds $100,000 and the recipient is chosen by the monks of Belmont Abbey.
Summerlin competed against an impressive array of other applicants from Benedictine (Catholic) high schools from around the nation. Other nominated students are granted an Academic Excellence Scholarship of at least $8,000.
The criteria for determining the winner are quite exacting, according to Father Christopher Kirchgessner, O.S.B., Chair of the Crescat Scholarship Committee. “We look for academic excellence first and foremost,” Kirchgessner said. “But seriousness of intent and the candidate’s involvement in extracurricular activities are also key. Shannon Summerlin stood out in all of those areas.”
Summerlin’s record at Benedictine Military School has been exceptional: Honor Roll every semester since the beginning of his freshman year; captain of the varsity wrestling team; recipient of numerous awards for both his English and math prowess; and achievement of the rank of Brigade Commander at the military school.
“We feel blessed to have a young person of Shannon Summerlin’s caliber coming to Belmont Abbey College,” said Father Kirchgessner, who is a theology professor at the college. “The last recipient of the Crescat [which in Latin means ‘Let it grow’], Ann Cook from the Chicago area, is a phenomenal student and human being. One Year Anniversary

Actually its been one year and 3 days since this memorbale event took place. It happened April 5, 2007 at a college campus in Savannah. There were several people/things involved. But for this we'll focus on 5 of those people/things:

• A Bud Light Box
• A Blade Series Bottle Opener

In case you haven't figured it out I'm talking about the Corey Smith concert at Armstrong last year. Yes, that was one night we'll never forget. It all started at teh Long Point Dock and went down hill from there. On the way to the concert Joe decided to throw the Bud Light box out, which there is nothing wrong with except for the fact that he decided to do it on White Bluff in heavy traffic. It was alright though because he said he looked first and didn't see any cops. Once we arrived at Armstrong, Joe refused to throw out his drink and insisted on drinking it on the walk from the parking lot to the concert. That drink never made it to the door of the concert. If I remember correctly it was a Biggie Size cup from Wendy's and it was filled with Jim Beam and Coke and almosst the entire thing was spilled when Joe dropped it and a most of it ended up on his shirt. Everyone who had been drinking made it into the concert fine until Joe came up in line and was immeadiatly stopped because of the smell of alcohol coming off his shirt. Once we were inside and realized Joe had not gotten in, Pat went back out to see where he was. After Pat had been gone for a while Brian and Austin said I should go see where they were since I was the only sober one. Out in the lobby Joe and Pat were being questioned by one Officer Ortaga. We stepped outside and they were questioned some more and handcuffed. Officer Ortaga took them into a holding area and told me I could leave but since Pat asked me to wait I decided to stay. Here they were searched and a shot glass, fake ID, and a Blade bottle opener. Joe was asked where he received it and his reply was,"My good friend Robert Fender gave me that" which was not true. Then the butch cop showed up and that confused the hell out of Joe. He kept trying to admit that he had been drinking and was told to be quiet but kept responding yes sir to the female cop and yes mam to Officer Ortaga. Eventually he let them go after I agreed to take them home. We walked to the car and Pat said there was no point in me missing the concert too so we they decided to wait in the car and have Garrett come in pick them up. Once Garrett arrived I received a phone call saying that Pat and Joe were sitting on the ground handcuffed. When I got out there Officer Ortaga was searching the car and pulled out the bottle of Kentucky Gentlemen after we told him earlier that there was no more alcohol in the car. He then slammed the bottle on the top of the car and said, "You lied to me!" From there they were placed in the Armstrong Police car and I was told to leave. Brian, Austin, and Myslef left after the concert and returned Joe's car to the Long Point dock, got my car, and went home. Probably the worst part of the punishment they received was a lifetime ban from Armstrong's campus. Lets hope that this will be the only serious run in with the law any of us ever have.

Offseason Workouts

Heisman winner Matt Leinart, now the face of the Arizona Cardinals franchise, has been busy perfecting his offseason workout routine.
Not everybody in Arizona is having as much fun as Leinart though. Dan Bickley of the Arizona Republic, who apparently wasn't invited to the party, says it's time for Matt to grow up.

He writes: "Take that young girl apparently guzzling beer from a funnel device [beer bong] held by Leinart. ... What if she never made it home that night? What if she plowed through a red light after leaving the bash at Leinart's house, taking out a family in the process?


"Now take that picture of Leinart and four young girls cuddling in a hot tub. What if one of them woke up and decided to accuse Leinart of improper conduct? What of the headlines then?"

Couldn't agree more. Look, I get it, photographers want to get the shot. But really, how many times does it have to happen before the tour steps in? During the 2004 U.S. Open at Shinnecock, Woods' caddie, Steve Williams dispensed a little vigilante justice and was subesquently ripped for it.

Statesboro Blues - Episode One

Since this blog is so lame and I am so cool I thought I would begin a six week mini-series chronicling the the events of the bustling city of Statesboro, GA and it’s many inhabitants. I won’t be living here next fall so I thought I should create a permanent account of the things and people I have to deal with every day. These accounts, while astonishing, have not been embellished, for they need no embellishing. These are Statesboro Blues. Today’s episode takes place next to the nautilus curling machine in the gym. I am forced to overhear two young men, we will call them Chad and Dierks.

Chad: Yall go to (Rude) Rudy’s last night?

Dierks: Yeah dude, there were so many fuckin’ sluts in that club. I don’t even remember.

Chad: That’s whasup dude.

Dierks: Yeah, Tracy thinks he got gonorrhea for this one bitch in there.

Chad: That’s whasup dude. (Laughs)

Dierks: I know, right? (Both laugh)

Chad: (Pause) ...You goin’ up there again tonight?

Dierks: Shit yeah.

Movies to watch this weekend

Hey everyone hope yalls holy week is going good. If you get a few free hours when there are no college basketball games on there are two great movies yall should watch if you haven't seen them yet:

These movies are great for several reasons. First they both have feature two excellent actors; Johnny Depp and Al Pacino respectively. More importantly they both show the dangers of cocaine use which in the case of these two movie characters leads to jail and death.


At Easter Sunday mass I will be saying a prayer for all of our friends that in the future they will be able to "just say no." I hope everyone joins me in this effort so we do not have to stage an intervention when we return home for summer break.

BC Beats SCPS

The baseball team overcame 4 errors to beat Savannah Christian 11-9. The Cadets had 16 hits including a perfect 4/4 for Kevin Davis and a homerun for Chris Kicklighter (3/4). Kyle Tootle was the winner (1-0) which included a 2 for 2 hitting. For Savannah Christian Jonathon Hester, who left BC to play baseball for the Raiders, was the losing pitcher (0-1). SCPS had 7 hits and 3 errors. A J Defillips went 2 for 4.

SEC Fan of the Week

Since there hasn't been much to post lately and the the fact that I'm bored as hell at work, I decided to start something new with an SEC fan of the Week contest. I'll post two videos of two different fans from schools in the SEC and everyone can vote on their favorite. The winners will be posted the following week with two new videos. The winners will advance until we have the Fan of the Year.

This week's matchup is between Florida and South Carolina.

Directors Cup Standings

Currently we are tied with Blessed Trinity for 3rd place behind Gilmer and you guessed it Westminister. Gilmer is technically not ahead of us since their only points are from a wrestling traditional championship and top 4 placing in the wrestling duals. Only the top result should be counted in the final results. We are in a position to place better in the directors cup standings than we have in recent history, if the Golf team can place well and sports such as soccer, baseball, and tennis qualify for their respective state tournaments as they usually do. Oh and by the way a few other local schools current places:

Governor Barkley?

Charles Barkley is considering running for governor in the state of Alabama in 2010. Here Charles is seen on the campaign trail handing out Bud Light to his supporters. One can only hope that this is on his political agenda and will continue if he is elected in the 2010 election.

Wrestling

Benedictine Wrestler Ryan Gregory won the Class AAA state championship in the 160-pound division Saturday night at Gwinnett Arena. BC's Nick Wright placed second in the 103-pound division, and Shane Summerlin placed second in the 119-pound division. The Cadets finished sixth overall with 117.5 points.

We’ve had a few questions come up about Boggs, and why we refer to tasty Miller Lites as Boggs. Well my friends, open your ears and I’ll pour in a tale.
I heard the legendary story over my car radio as I was heading down I-5 to work about a year ago, listening to Mitch in the Morning on 950 KJR, as usual. For some reason or another, Mitch was gone that day so Steve Sandmeyer was hosting the show, and former Mariners and Yankees pitcher Jeff Nelson was sitting in as his sidekick.
Sandmeyer was killing some time by making small talk about baseball and about Nelly’s career and exploits as a major leaguer. The conversation turned to some of the funniest things Nelly had seen in his career when Sandy asked something like “who was the best with the ladies out of everyone you were around in baseball?” Nelson said that it was tough to say for sure, but that he figured it was probably Andre Dawson, the former Expos, Cubs, Red Sox, and Marlins slugger.
The two shared a laugh about the Hawk’s game, and then Sandmeyer stumbled upon the most compelling question ever articulated in an interview: “who would you say drank the most beer out of everyone you ever played with?” The following colloquy sheds some light on one of drinking’s biggest stars and on one of the greatest drinking feats of all time.
Sandy: Who would you say drank the most beer out of everyone you ever played with?
Nelson: Easy, Wade Boggs…..easy
Sandy: (laughing) Really!? Wade Boggs?
Nelson: Oh, yeah, without a doubt. I’ve never seen anyone drink as much beer as he did in my life:
Sandy: (laughing) Get outta here, alright, give me an example, like how much did he drink?
Nelson: Oh, I’d say, on a typical road trip, east coast to west coast [Nelly played with Boggs on the Yankees], say a road game to Seattle……Wade would drink anywhere between 50 and 60 beers.
Sandy: NO WAY!! 50 or 60 beers. That is impossible.
Nelson: No, I know…I know how crazy that sounds, and I wouldn’t believe it myself unless I saw him do it…..numerous times. And he drank nothing but Miller Lite.
Sandy: How in the hell did he have time to drink that many beers. For God’s sake, how many times did he have to go to the bathroom?
Nelson: I’m not kidding you Steve. Seriously. Wade was the kind of guy who was always the first one at the club house. So he’d get to the clubhouse, and he’d bring a six pack with him. He’d be there drinking a beer when someone showed up, and as we were all packing our stuff up out of our lockers and getting our bags ready for the trip, Wade would sit there and drink that whole six pack.
Now, at the time, we were flying out of New Jersey, so it was somewhat of a drive from Yankee stadium to the airport in New Jersey. Wade would drink another couple of beers on the bus to the airport. At the time, we were flying this older airplane, it couldn’t make it across the country without refueling, and it wasn’t the fastest airplane in the sky. So we would stop in North Dakota or something. Wade would drink about a half rack between New Jersey and North Dakota, and it would take about a half-hour to an hour to refuel once we got there, so he’d have a few more beers while we were grounded in North Dakota.
Once we got back up in the air, Wade would drink another 10, 11, 12 beers on the way out to the west coast. The whole flight from coast to coast ususally took us well over 7 hours. We’d touch down at Sea-Tac, hop on the bus headed to the Kingdome, and Wade would have another beer or two on the bus. Then, all of us would get to the Kingdome and unpack our bags and sit around and BS with eachother, and Wade would have a beer in his hand the entire time. He was always one of the last people to leave the club house too. So I’d say that all in all, he drank over 50 beers on the trip, and this wasn’t just an isolated incident, he did that almost every time.
Sandy: Unbelievable. That’s absolutely unbelieveable.
Nelson: Yeah, I know, I’m not kidding though, let’s call up somebody and they’ll tell you man, they’ll tell you I’m not lying.
Sandy: Alright, who should we call up. Let’s take a commercial break, and then we’ll call up somebody and see if we can’t get to the bottom of this….This is absolutely amazing.

Police charge students with drug possession
A University student was arrested and charged with two felony counts and one misdemeanor of possession of drugs. David Orne was served a warrant on Feb. 4 for felony possessions of oxycodone and propoxyphene and misdemeanor marijuana possession. Thomas Gaiennie and Jay Thomas were also charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. A misdemeanor charge is filed when an individual is accused of having less than one ounce of marijuana.The incident leading to the arrests occurred Jan. 16 on Bloomfield Street.In Georgia, potential penalties for felony drug possession for oxycodone include imprisonment for two to 15 years. The law calls for imprisonment for one to five years for the first offense."Oxycodone is a narcotic that will give someone a sustained high for a long time," said Henry Cobb, a pharmacy professor.Oxycodone and propoxyphene, trade name davron, are often taken in tablet form to relieve moderate to severe pain, according to the National Institute for Health's Web site.Each drug has many dangerous side effects.Side effects for propoxyphene include vomiting, stomach pain and difficulty breathing. Oxycodone's side effects include hallucinations, loss of consciousness and slowed breathing.

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and was very much in favor of 'the redistribution of wealth.

'She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the addition of more government welfare programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.

Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew.

She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.

Her father listened and then asked, 'How is your friend Audrey doing?

'She replied, 'Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties, and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over.'Her wise father asked his daughter, 'Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA.

'The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, 'That wouldn't be fair! I have worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!'

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, 'Welcome to the Republican Party.’

The Tide came rolling in on National Signing Day.
After an impressive flurry of commitments in the past 48 hours, and thanks to a solid recruiting foundation that was laid in the spring and summer, Alabama has been crowned by Rivals.com as the recruiting national champions for the class of 2008.

The Crimson Tide finished with an amazing run in Nick Saban's second recruiting class in Tuscaloosa. Saban and his staff landed three five-star players and 18 four-star recruits, giving them enough of a push to edge Notre Dame and SEC rival Florida.
As of 3 p.m. EST, the Tide was sitting with 2,819 points, just ahead of Notre Dame, Florida, Oklahoma and Georgia. The rest of the Rivals.com top 10 consisted of Miami at No. 6, Florida State at No. 7, Ohio State at No. 8, Michigan at No. 9 and USC at No. 10.
There are several uncommitted players who could cause some shifts in the top-10, but nobody has enough left on the board to knock the Tide from their perch.
Alabama's class got started in February 2007 when four-star defensive end Michael Williams jumped on board. But things really got hot in March when the Tide added commitments from Jermaine Preyear, Brandon Lewis, Undra Billingsley and Ivan Matchett. Lewis, another four-star player, turned down offers from Clemson, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Ole Miss, Tennessee and others to commit to defensive coordinator Kevin Steele.
The Tide went on to add seven more commitments in the spring and summer, including five-star athlete Burton Scott of Prichard (Ala.) Vigor. Linebacker coach Lance Thompson, a serious candidate for Rivals.com national recruiter of the year, reeled in Scott. The 5-foot-11, 194-pound prospect went on official visits to Auburn, Florida and Miami, but he never wavered on his commitment.

"He just loved Coach Saban and the whole staff," Vigor coach Kerry Stephenson told BamaOnLine.com. "He liked what they said about using him on offense. I can tell you this: They are getting a great player with the sky as the limit for how good he can be."
Scott's commitment capped an impressive summer run that included another five-star prospect in offensive tackle Tyler Love of Mountain Brook, Ala. Love committed to the Tide on July 27 over offers from Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee and others.
The Tide then got its quarterback of the future on Sept. 4 when EA Sports Elite 11 quarterback Star Jackson of Lake Worth, Fla., committed. Jackson went on to impress at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and is the No. 5 pro-style quarterback in the nation.
"Alabama had been recruiting me harder than anyone, and they were there before I started to get all these offers," Jackson said when he committed. "They've been there the whole time and showed a lot of faith in me early by offering me. It really stood out to me when they sent three coaches to watch me in May, including Nick Saban."
During the season, the Tide added four-star defensive tackle Kerry Murphy, four-star safety Robert Lester, Rivals100 offensive lineman Barrett Jones, four-star linebacker Don'ta Hightower and three-star defensive tackle Terrence Cody.
Additional commitments from solid prospects such as Robby Green and Chris Jordan helped set the stage for the bigger fireworks in the days leading up to National Signing Day.
Four-star defensive end Glenn Harbin jumped on board Jan. 31, followed by a major pledge from Alonzo Lawrence, the nation's No. 2 cornerback. Lawrence, a 6-foot-1, 187-pounder, selected the Tide over Auburn, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

"I committed to the University of Alabama, because of my relationship with the coaches and the players," Lawrence said. "They started recruiting me very early on and stuck with me throughout this process. When compared to other schools I was considering, the facilities, the coaching staff and the chance to win a national championship was too much to pass up.
"I'm excited about getting started and getting to Tuscaloosa to help this class achieve its ultimate goal, which is to win a national championship."
The Tide continued to roll. Wednesday morning, the nation's No. 1 receiver, Julio Jones of Foley, Ala., signed with Alabama. Jones, the No. 4 player overall, was one of the most talked-about recruits in state history. Keeping him at home was huge for the Tide.
"In the end I went with the choice that I felt most comfortable with, the one that felt like home, and that was Alabama," Jones said. "I took a lot of visits up there, and that's where I felt the best.
"I looked at their facilities, the campus and academics, and it was as good as it got, so that was good enough for me. I felt good with the coaches. They told me they were going to move me around and use me in different sets. I think I'll fit in fine."
The title was secured when Alabama received a commitment from four-star linebacker Jerrell Harris of Gadsden (Ala.) Garden City. Harris was ranked as the No. 38 player in the country by Rivals.com.

Today Micheal got his first college win in a 11 to 4 victory of Newberry. The General pitched six and two thirds innings giving up 3 earned runs and striking out four. Not a bad start to what hopefully will be a successful college career.

On a side note Brian Kennedy is a liar and tried to lie to me about the spread we had agreed on Saturday night for the Super Bowl because he thought I was too intoxicated to rember the bet whenever I asked him what it was the next day.

Tiger Woods joined some elite company Sunday, even though he might as well have been playing alone.

A 10-foot birdie on the 18th gave Woods a 1-under 71 and an eight-shot victory, the ninth time in his career that he has won by at least that many. It earned him a fourth straight title at Torrey Pines, a third straight PGA TOUR victory and congratulations from the King.
It was his 62nd career victory, tying him with Arnold Palmer for fourth place on the all-time PGA TOUR victory list.
"I'm sure that there are many, many more coming in the future," Palmer said. "There isn't any question about that."
He won't get an argument from Woods. Having won for the fifth time in his last six starts on the PGA TOUR, Woods said he was at another level -- even better than 2000 -- and still had room for improvement.
Better than 2000, when he won nine times and three straight majors?
"Yeah," Woods said without hesitation.
Woods finished at 19-under 269 to win the Buick Invitational for the fourth consecutive year, tying a PGA TOUR record for consecutive wins in a single tournament. Woods is the only player to own such a streak at two events, having also won four in a row at Bay Hill.
He won for the fifth time in his last six starts. Throw in his Target World Challenge at the end of the year, and Woods has won his last three tournaments by a combined 23 shots.
"I'm starting to get better," he said. "I'm hitting shots that I never could hit before, even in 2000. People think, 'Yeah, you played great.' But I made everything. I'm actually hitting the ball better now than I did during that stretch."
Ryuji Imada won the B-flight. He matched the best score of the final round with a 67 and was the runner-up.
"My goal going into today was to finish second," Imada said. "That's almost like winning the golf tournament to me."
Woods returns to Torrey Pines in June for the U.S. Open, and if this week was any indication, it could be another long week for his peers. The world's No. 1 player now has won six times as a pro at Torrey Pines, and his comment earlier this month that the Grand Slam is "easily within reason" looked every bit of that.
"What he's going to do is screw the U.S. Open up for everyone else," Fred Couples said. "If he had shot 10 or 11 under, the USGA would have said, 'Well, maybe we have it in the right spot.' Now, they may have to regroup a little."
Then again, it might not matter.
The 71 ended Woods' streak of 14 consecutive rounds in the 60s, dating to the second round of the Deutsche Bank Championship. He has finished no worse than second since the British Open in July, when he tied for 12th at Carnoustie.
Woods planned to leave Sunday night for the Dubai Desert Classic, and he likely won't return to the PGA TOUR until the end of February at the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship. Next in line on the career list is Ben Hogan with 64 victories, and each win moves Woods closer to the record 82 won by Sam Snead.
"You'd like to think it's surprising, but it's not," Charles Howell III said. "It's Tiger."

Woods is 6-of-12 in his PGA TOUR debuts, but he has never won with such ease. He went back to work after the holidays, and it was as if last year never ended.
It was a powerful message to the rest of the PGA TOUR, even if it was unintentional.
"They can look at it however they want to look at it," Woods said. "I know that I'm trying to win and trying to improve and trying to get better."
The only surprise was the weather, a pleasant one at that.
The forecast was for heavy rain overnight and into Sunday, with the possibility of a Monday finish. But the clouds cleared as Woods was warming up, and he played the front nine under brilliant blue skies. Only on the back nine did clouds return and temperatures plunge. He closed out his victory under a mixture of rain and clouds, and smile that showed all was right in his world.
"He's just much better," said Couples, who posted his first top-10 finish since the 2006 Masters. "It's fun to see. I've been on TOUR for 28 years, and I've never seen this stuff."
Rory Sabbatini also had a 67 to tie for third with Stewark Cink (73).
"I'd say this is the best I've seen him play," Cink said. "The last couple days, off the tee, the control he had was just really very impressive. The Tiger that we saw a year and two years ago, hitting it sort of all over the place, I think that's a thing of the past. He's got it geared down and he came out and played really well."
Justin Leonard closed with a 72 to finish alone in fifth, 12 shots behind. Phil Mickelson also made his 2008 debut this week, but was slowed by illness and was never a factor. He shot 71 on Sunday and tied for sixth with Durant (75).
"Nobody thought too much about winning," Mickelson said.

Mourners signed a funeral register and filed past a white and gold casket at the Savannah High auditorium Tuesday morning. They came to bury the 'N' word. Following the example of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s national convention, at which the slur was buried in Detroit last summer, teacher and WEAS radio announcer Lester L’eck White and his Savannah High School Gents HBO Club organized the ceremony. Club members had already begun breaking their own N-word habits. Tyrique Montgomery Jr., the club’s vice pClub members had already begun breaking their own N-word habits. Tyrique Montgomery Jr., the club’s vice president, has spent the last two months saying “my brother” where he might have used the N-word before.The club, which calls itself a student brotherhood organization, expanded its message school-wide in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s 79th birthday Tuesday.

Not sure if yall rember Tyrique Montgomery Jr. but he was your average Afr0 American BC student in that he played football (running back if I rember right) and left after a few short months. It's a shame he left BC because I would have loved to hear what the Spanky's crew (The Cannons, Curldawger, and CW3 Carl-when they let him come) would have to say if a Cadet inspired by the NAACP buried the "N" word on campus. I think we can all agree that the Spanky's crew would have an interesting take if this was to happen.

Whether it was listening to him yell "pound them like a 2 dollar whore" or simply "fuckin hit them" and then proceeding to agressively make out with his girlfriend after every single Bama first down this guy was a treat to watch and listen to.

McFadden Got Cuffs Instead of "That Wood"

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- Heisman Trophy runner-up Darren McFadden was handcuffed by police and then released without charges after being involved in a "pretty rowdy scene" at a piano bar early Thursday.
Arkansas' All-America running back and at least four others were at the downtown bar, called Ernie Biggs, when a disturbance broke out shortly after midnight, police Lt. Terry Hastings said. A bouncer was hit in the face as he was trying to get the group to leave, Hastings said. A police report did not specify who hit the bouncer.
"There was a whole bunch of people there," Hastings said. "They were inside and it spilled out into the street."
Outside, McFadden was handcuffed by a police officer "because he was agitated and was provoking aggressive behavior inciting the incident," according to the police report.
"We handcuffed him for a few minutes because he was rowdy," Hastings said.
McFadden, who was the only person handcuffed, was released after he calmed down. Hastings said it was routine procedure to handcuff a person to gain control of a situation.
Thursday evening before an appearance at the Little Rock Touchdown Club, where he was to be honored with an award, McFadden declined comment, through a university spokesman.
McFadden's mother, Mini Muhammad, said her son was trying to protect his younger brother, Daryl.
"He wasn't the one that was fighting. It was his little brother -- someone had jumped on him," Muhammad said. "He was agitated because his brother had a bloody nose.
"Darren was not fighting -- please make that be known," she added.
Hastings said bar employee Brant Hankins was advised that he could pursue charges against the person who hit him. The police report classified the incident as misdemeanor battery.
In the summer of 2006 in a fight outside another Little Rock club, McFadden severely injured his toe, but recovered in time to play in the Razorbacks' season opener.
McFadden, who also finished second in the 2006 Heisman voting, holds Arkansas' career and single-season rushing records. The junior has yet to announce whether he will forgo his senior year and enter the NFL draft.
The disturbance will be investigated by state Alcoholic Beverage Control agents once the ABC office receives the police report, said agency director Carl Kirkland. Ernie Biggs is a private club that serves alcohol but not food. State law does not allow a private club to admit anyone under 21 if the business does not serve food.
The Little Rock bar also allows smoking, and state law allows smoking in only certain establishments, but does not allow those businesses to admit anyone under 21.
Ed Barham, a spokesman for the state Health Department, which enforces the smoking ban, said the agency will look into the disturbance after hearing about it through the media. He said if it appears the club violated the law, the agency will refer the matter to the state Board of Health.
There was no response to a message left on an answering machine at the club Thursday afternoon.
Hankins said Thursday he had no comment on the incident or on McFadden's involvement.

As I was watching Sportscenter this morning, highlights from the Savannah State-Kansas State basketball game came on. Savannah State's Men's Basketball team set two NCAA records last night. Savannah State set records for fewest points and worst field goal percentage in a half in the shot-clock era, shooting 4.3 percent while being outscored 48-4 in the second half of an 85-25 loss to Kansas State. At least they missed out on the all time record for fewest points in a half which is held by Noth Carolina when they didn't score a single point in a game against Duke in 1979. The Tigers hit 1 free throw and 1 three pointer to get the 4 points. This isn't the first time the Tigers have been blown out by 60 points. Back in 2005 they lost to Oregon 83-23.
