
One of the most exciting and promising days for U.S. distance running was overshadowed by the death of 28 year old Ryan Shay. Shay collasped at the 5 and 1/2 mile mark and was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Shay was 2002 graduate of Notre Dame where he won the 2001 10,000 meter national championship. He was also a 4 time national champion as a professional in distances from the 15k to the marathon.
